Watched Battle Royale recently out of a sudden interest. Violence rated high, but it won't be a problem for most of us. However i wasn't expecting such psychotic content in the movie. Basically the story line isn't amazing, just different (or i should say "creative")."At the dawn of the Millenium, the nation collapsed. At 15% unemployment, 10 million were out of work, 800,000 students boycotted school. The adults lost confidence, and fearing the youth, eventually passed the 'Millenium Educational Reform Act'...AKA: The BR Act."
The story follows the abduction of a randomly selected class of high-school students - a tradition every year, by the adults (government) in executing the BR Act. The students were sent to a deserted island, with only food and water to last them for 72hrs. Metal collars were fastened onto the neck of every students. The objective, is to force these students to kill off each other until a single survivor is left. That survivor will then be escorted out of the deserted island safely as the winner of the 'game'. If no winner emerge by the end of 72hrs, the programmed metal collars controlled by the teachers will be set off - bombing the necks off every surviving student.
Friendship is the main concept of both Battle Royale I and II. The movie shows how these students are willing to kill their best friends in order to survive. However the protagonist, Shuya Nanahara (Tatsuya Fujiwara) insisted on protecting the girl he likes, Noriko Nakagawa, throughout that 3 days, and relying on a transfer student who had easily gained their trust by helping them with their injuries. In the end, Nanahara eventually...

well, if you want to watch the movie you can either get the dvd or just drop by crunchyroll for a peek. :)
If not, keep reading from here.
Nanahara, Noriko and the transfer student relied on the already de-activated metal collar to fool their teacher into believing that they had already killed each other. The transfer student then went on to look for their teacher appearing as the winner, but with Nanahara and Noriko hidding somewhere nearby. After making sure that there were no troops around, Nanahara and Noriko showed themselves. The teacher, wanting Noriko dead, was killed by Nanahara, and eventually, together with the transfer student who died of injuries on board the boat, Nanahara and Noriko left the island - safe, for now.
Might catch part 2 some time soon, since i havent watched it. But here's a rough summary :
Battle Royale II shows Nanahara re-entering the game again. But this time, with his objection party. The objective of the game this time is for another class of high school students (lead by a teacher) to kill Nanahara's gang instead of themselves.
